08/22/2006   This resort is gorgeous. It was like walking into a palace. They really paid attention to detail when constructing this hotel. The foyer is done in marble. The rooms are beautiful, furniture is all in dark mahogany. We had a bar with liquor dispensers in our room as well as a fridge that was stocked daily. The food was amazing. I read other reviews and was totally surprised when we actually stayed there. Couldn't understand what the others were complaining about. We even ate the sushi and not once did we get sick. We actually gained a few pounds because the food was amazing. The only negative thing about the Riu Palace is the beach. If you are a beach lover and love to swim in the ocean, you will not be able to at the Riu Palace. The waves are quite high and the ocean has a strong undertow. There are other beaches that you can go to via water taxi. We are not really beach people. They have two giant size pools and we were quite happy to stay there and mingle with the rest of the tourists. I would like to go back again this year. Hopefully between Xmas and New Years.
