Honeymoon Reviews
07/20/2006
My husband and I stayed at Grand Palladium Bavaro from June 11th-18th for our honeymoon and it was absoloutly amazing. Neither of us had gone anywhere tropical before and loved it! We arrived the the Sunday night and were at the resort within an hour of landing at the airport. Check in was easy, and they have these little truck like things they put your bags on and take you to your room. The room is amazing when you get there, our towels were done as swans kissing and there were flower petals on the bed. So nice. You get your a-la-carte tickets when you get there ..... Book right away!!! They fill up fast (even though when you are in the restaurent it's not full at all) ..... Book as soon as you are settled in your room. While we were booking our a la carte's, one of the maid's brought a basket of fruit and a small bottle of rum and left it in our room (which was nice!) The Room: Since we were on our honeymoon we opted for the 'Romance Suite' which was GORGEOUS!!!! It was a stone's throw away from the beach (we could see it from our porch). It had a King Size Canopy bed with a little sitting area with a couch. The bathroom was amazing, a seperate toilet, huge jacuzzi tub, his/her sinks (lots of counter space) AND it has an outdoor shower with a hammock. It's all closed in and you can only acces it from your bathroom. It was amazing. The Food: The buffet is good, but it get's repetative after about the 5th day. You can only eat so much of the same thing for breakfast. The a la carte's were ok. The mexican was alright, they didn't have a huge variety of food I found. The seafood was pretty good but you have to like seafood or chicken. Chicken was the only alternative they had. We skipped our last a la carte, it was the chinese i think, and we looked at the menu AFTER we booked it.... Squid and eww... No way. So we just didn't go. Other than that, the food that was on the beach at a hut was pretty good, but you had to ask them to cook the burgers longer, they like their meat still red. The sports bar food was good too. We only realized it was there like 4 days into the trip so that sucked. The Excursions: We didn't take any, it looked like fun, but we wanted to just relax and enjoy the beach. Maybe next time. We have friends that have been to the Grand Palladium and did excursions and loved them, especially parasailing. The Staff: Super nice. Our maid was amazing - she usually does the same villa. They work 11 days straight and then only have 3 days off, then back to 11 days. So usually you will have the same maid for the whole vacation. We left her a dollar a day and also some little gifts. I just went to the dollar store and picked up some pens/notepads/hairclips and left something each day. They love it! They are sooo happy and when they see you they smile and wave or point out what you got them ..... It's nice to know you are giving them something they don't have or can't afford. We also tipped 1$ every couple drinks. The bar staff in the lobby were really nice. We even just told them to bring us a drink they thought was good...... And it was AMAZING! The Beach: AMAZING! The view is amazing, the water is soooo warm. It was even nice just lying there taking in the sunshine. But bring sunblock. I walked on the beach for 1/2 hr without and burnt. It's that bad. We had no problem finding beach chairs despite what other reviews i have read said. There were plenty in stock. The sand is perfect, white and absolutly amazing. They also have a photographer every day on the beach with different animals or people dressed in costumes. They have a monkey (too cute), snake, birds etc. They cost 7$US each picture and they are a 5x7. They are worth it though. And they are done by the end of the day, you can pick them up right by the buffet entrance. Also, if you ask the photographer to take shots of you and your 'significant' other or just a group of friends, he will. He'll set you up in different poses and take like 20 pictures..... Then comes the problem of deciding which ones you want. We must have spent $100 US on pics. The monkey, snake and 'us' pictures. But they are nice memories to have. Things you should bring: I brought things we didn't use, but good to have just in case. Tylenol - for those headaches from all that sun, or too much drinking. Pepto bismal -- just in case!!! And band-aids... You wouldn't think it, but they come in handy sometimes! Also, I brought plastic ziploc bags to put medicine in or to put wet clothes for the airplane ride home. Grounds: They were gorgeous, there was always staff working, non-stop. Either cutting the grass or taking coconuts out of trees so they don't fall and hurt someone. Pool: We didn't use... I prefer the real thing.... The ocean. Entertainment: We didn't go to any but i heard they are great. Shopping: We did some bartering on the beach. It's all the way at the end of the beach. It was ok, if you like to argue and get things at a cheaper price which you usually can. They give you this OUTRAGEOUS price and offer way lower. We were offered 185$US for a bunch of stuff and my husband said $30US. In the end, we got it all for $70. So we did pretty good. But you have to enjoy that kinda stuff. And they will usually get you in by saying they want to give you a free necklace. We got 3 in total. Some of them are really nice, other times its just not worth it. Some of the stuff they had was really nice. In the end we decided that we might as well pay the full price at the store on the resort. We were just too tired to argue anymore. They had some nice stuff in the store too that you could buy that they didn't have on the beach. Bar Staff on the beach: They were good. And if you see Sam tell him we say 'Hola!!!!' He is a SUPER nice bartender ..... Best one on the resort! All in all, we had an amazing time and would love to go back and can't wait to go back!!! Hopefully all this was helpful for you all!!!!
