11/28/2007   Our flight left the morning after our wedding at 6am. We were exhausted and were dragging through the airport. Our flight had one stop in Miami, then we went directly from Miami to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. We got off of the plane and were greeted by the sound of live musicians playing merengue music. The representative from Smartset travel was waiting for us as soon as we got our bags and directed us to our bus. On the way to the hotel, we were able to learn a little about Dominican culture from our bus driver. He made us laugh and gave us a taste of his culture while pointing out sites as we drove by them. The hotel was breath taking. There was marble everywhere and so many colors with shops right at our 'front door.' We checked in very quickly and one of the maids greeted us instantly and escorted us (out of her way) to our room. The room was huge and decorated perfectly. We had a full bathroom, refrigerator, safe and mini-bar. Not one detail was left out of any aspect of our stay. Our dinner waiters remembered our names and reserved tables for us! It was excellent! Everyone was so humble and we got to meet people from different parts of the world. The view from our room was stunning! We were right off of the coast surrounded by mountains! Our experience was indescribably beautiful! Our only advice would be to go there ready to let go of everything and enjoy!

08/18/2006   The hotel was just beautiful and the staff was waonderful. When we arrived there was a slight delay but they offered us some wonderful punch and the flight had been just awful so we were happy just to be on land. There were a lot of people complaining at the front desk and my husband was patiently waiting his turn. We were offered a fantastic upgrade from the staff and I truly believe it was because my husband was the only person at the front desk not being abusive. We were in paradise, why complain? The food was wonderful and we both ate sooooo much we gained at least 5 pounds in one week. We tipped both our nightly waiter and our daily bartenders and never had to wait for anything... I know you aren't supposed to tip, but you know what those people work hard and they deserve it! Politeness with them goes a long way too. The facilites and the pool were wonderful. The resort is joined with two other resorts and they used our stuff most of the time. Which was annoying because we paid more money to have those nice facilities and there were a lot of high school kids using our pool bar and being obnoxious who weren't even at our hotel. Overall it was wonderful and we hope to return for many many anniversary's to come.

07/20/2006   Bring bugspray! Snorkel at the other beach if you wanna see lots of fish...and be friendly cuz if your nice everyone will be nice to you.
