We had an oustanding time! We stayed at the new Medditerranean Village and it was absolutely beautiful! Great fun, very romantic, plenty of activities, and excellent service.

After our wedding, we spent a week at the Sandal Antigua. We hadn't been sure if an all-inclusive would be right for us. All of our vacations prior had been road trips or very active trips around the country. But it turns out that Sandals was exactly right for us. The room we were in was beautiful and had a fully stocked bar which was replenished every day. There were swimming pools everywhere, and the beach was just gorgeous. We would highly recommend going on the snorkling tour and the sunset cruise. The sunset cruise was just amazing, and snorkling was a lot of fun. The food at the resort was pretty good. We would recommend going to Kimono's first off - since you sit at group tables, it is a great opportunity to meet other couples around the resort.

This resort is for a couple who wants a very relaxing, laid back vacation experience. It's not for couples who want a party atmosphere. It is an all-inclusive resort with all drinks and meals included. We arrived at the resort and were greeted with drinks and cool towels after a long plane ride. The staff was friendly at check-in and throughout our stay. The meals were good with a variety of restraunts and bars throughout the resort. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style with dinners served at several resteraunts. There is a dress code for dinner, however. The resort itself is quiet and relaxing. The beach is beautiful but it is a public beach. We were married at the resort in a garden ceremony with pictures following on the beach. We then had a private dinner on the beach to celebrate! The resort did a wonderful job with the ceremony, flowers, pictures and preparations. They were very professional. It went smoothly and was stress free!! We purchased a photo package which was expensive but the pictures were beautiful. We also purchased the CD for future reprints at home. (Note that for the beachfront wedding pictures, the resort uses a photo-shop program to remove any unwanted details from the background of the pictures. It looks like you are all alone on a beautiful beach for your photos.) In summary, we had a very relaxing and stree free weddingmoon! We will definately try other Sandal's properties in the future since we liked the all-inclusive aspect of this resort. During our stay, however, one side of the resort was undergoing construction for expansion. (We didn't notice it very often and it didn't bother us at all. It should be completed by now. However, I would check with your travel agent anyway.)

We were looking for a magical place to go for our honeymoon, we wanted to be able to find peace and tranquillity, where the service and food would be second to none, the accommodation would be luxurious, to be able to snorkel and sail and to come home wishing we had never left. We wanted the ultimate 5* inclusive, as advertised. Oh God, were we deceived and misled with the Sandals advertising, the Sandals web site must have used pictures from 10 years ago. It is not the gleaming hotel with happy smiling staff as displayed on their web site. I will break the problems down into sections: The Site: The buildings are very poor and run down, most suffer from damp not just on the outside but also on the inside. The bedding and furniture smells of damp, but don’t bother to complain, nothing will get done. There was guttering hanging off the roof over looking the beach. There are broken and dangerous tiles around the swimming pools. Sandals will say they are upgrading the site, yes they are, and if you are unlucky enough to be in the accommodation near to the work you will be disturbed from 08:00 till 18:00 every day. Just great if you want to relax in your room! Also there is a massive building project going on along one side of the site, it will be going on for most of 2006. Our Rooms: Having just flown in from the UK we were very tired, it was dark, so we were glad to get to our room and fall asleep. Fancy three in a bed on your honeymoon? Well we didn’t, except that’s what we got! It was with cockroaches, so the light had to be left on all night, a great start to the next two weeks. We complained the following morning but to no avail. The room was not sprayed, it was bug heaven, so we asked for a new room, the manager would not see us and in the end only when my wife was sitting crying in the reception / bar area did anything happen. Our new room suffered with ants and cockroaches as well, yes we except that these bugs live in these areas, but when you ask for your room to be sprayed you expect it to be done, here it was never done, so we went to the local shops and bought the stuff and did it ourselves. One guest was so cross he caught a cockroach in a jar and dropped it on the manager’s desk to prove his room was infested. If you don’t get out of your room by 10:00, you will end up making your own bed at night. Sadly our room overlooked the wedding area. There was a procession of up to 5 weddings a day going on, after their allotted time the wedding parties were ushered away ready for the next one, any one could and did walk through the area at any time during the weddings, we felt so sorry for the couples getting married. The Staff: You will find nicer people on the London underground, or New York subways at midnight, get the picture. The staff are unfriendly and most are incompetent. You get the feeling from them that this would be a great job if it were not for the guests. They never say sorry or apologise when they are wrong or make a mistake, and if you complain they will smile at you and just walk away and leave you standing there. Food: It was bland, boring, cold, and a total none event, if you liked school meals then you will love it here, otherwise if you are expecting high quality gourmet food you will be disappointed. The Beach: Was perfect except you could not walk, sit or lie on the beach without being bitten with the sand flies. One lady from South Wales had 120 bites on one leg; we had a lot but not that many. If you wanted to swim you could only swim in the very small roped areas because of the jet skies doing 30 mph right past where you are swimming. Sailing: No maintenance was carried out on the Hobby Cats, when the equipment failed to work properly; they just got a big spanner and hit it. Guests were given only a few minutes tuition before being set off; they got away with this until one afternoon when the wind picked up, then it was ciaos, luckily no one was injured or killed!! Snorkelling: Is a joke, you cannot snorkel from the beach, and the trips they run are to sites where there is only dead and bleached coral, to make it worse they feed bread to what fish are there, which is against Antigua law, but when we told the manager he was not interested. So we hope anyone thinking of going, will go else where in the world, we have travelled the world and this is the worst place we have ever been to.

Went to Sandals Antigua, Though it was not the newest resort, we had a great week and are planning another trip. Would not hesistate to go to another Sandals.

The Sandals Antigua was in dire need of repair upon our arrival. The pool was missing tiles which resulted in half the skin on my foot getting ripped off during a volleyball game and most buildings needed repair work. The beach is very pretty, but if you like fish as I do this is not the place. The staff laughed at me when I went out to feed the fish in the morning as I was told there are not fish off of the beach due to the pollution. I was told their toilets flush into the beach water, makes me want to go for a swim? Antigua was pretty, but I found the people to be unfriendly and not helpful. I thought Sandals would be great food, people and fun, but I have stayed at much cheaper happier resorts. The Japanese restaurant is great, but everything else leaves little to the imagination not to mention the stray cats and dogs running through the place stealing your food. I love animals, but I dont want strays full of disease trying to scratch and bite me for their dinner while I am eating mine. Personally, I was disappointed but they were adding on in April when I was there so maybe they will remodel the old part? I would not travel to this resort or island again and I dont know that I will try another Sandals resort. Back to Negril or Puerto Vallarta for me, the RIU resort chain is far superior to Sandals Antigua. I now know why the Sandals theme is 'All you need is love'. You will need that and a sense of humor to make it back from Sandals Antigua a happy person.
