Reasons to Travel to the United States Virgin Islands
- Shopping: Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, is one of the biggest shopping ports in the Caribbean. There are hundreds of duty-free shops, selling everything from perfume to jewelry and artwork to crafts.
- Beaches: Trunk Bay Beach in St. John is one of the most popular USVI beaches. It can be a bit crowded at times, but very beautiful and ideal for swimming. Caneel Bay beaches in St. John are beautiful, white sand beaches. For a secluded setting, take a ferry from St. Thomas to Water Island and visit Honeymoon Beach. Check out Vessup Bay and Hull Bay, for beaches on St. Thomas that aren’t as crowded, and Lameshur Bay Beach on the island’s south coast.
- Golf: There are 3 golf courses on the U.S. Virgin Islands, one on St. Thomas and two on St. Croix. Mahogany Run on St. Thomas overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and offers spectacular views. The course at the Buccaneer Hotel on St. Croix has breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. Also, the Carambola Golf Course on St. Croix has an exotic feel with a lot of tropical foliage and several lakes.
- Nightlife: St. Thomas offers the most in nightlife, including several clubs, bars, bands and stage performances. The islands have several casinos for those who like the excitement of gambling. The Divi Carina Bay Casino on St. Croix and Wyndham Sugar Bay Beach Club & Spa on St. Thomas are two favorites. St. John has the least to offer in the form of nightlife, but is a great getaway to relax in quiet surroundings.
- Scuba diving and snorkeling: The U.S. Virgin Islands are renowned for great snorkeling and diving. One of the best locations is Trunk Bay in St. John. For those with experience, the national park has an underwater trail. For lots of fish without lots of people, try Leinster Bay, which has beautiful and calm waters. Off the coast of St. Croix is Buck Island, which has amazing coral gardens and is perfect for a day of snorkeling.
