Antigua and Barbuda Honeymoons

AntiguaAntigua, the largest of the Leeward Islands, and Barbuda have an air of Britain, only becoming independent in 1981. Its rich history of sugar production is still evident in the sugar mills scattered across the island’s landscape.  In the 18th century, Antigua became home to the Great Britain’s most important naval base because of the protective features of English Harbour, which has deep waters shielding it from hurricanes.  This naval history accounts for one of the most popular leisure activities today: boating.  Yachting and sailing are huge attractions to Antigua, with Sailing Week being the biggest boating event of the year. The British influence is also evident in the countries love for cricket, which was even the host for the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Antigua is now a center for tourism in the Caribbean, with many upscale resorts, plenty of watersports, relaxing spas and rainforest adventure.  They also claim to have a beach for every day of the year, which is the perfect draw for beach lovers.  The powder white beaches are protected by coral reefs, making this an ideal location for snorkeling and diving.  Barbuda is also a great getaway destination.  The tranquil island doesn’t have a lot of accommodations, but it remains unspoiled and calm.  With tons of shipwrecks off the coastline, captured by the coral reefs, Barbuda has a lot to explore.  Honeymoons on Antigua or Barbuda will have a little bit of everything, from romance to adventure.
